I am ultimately trying to figure out if Arthur Edward Whelan is related to the founders of United Cigars and Whelan Drugstores; brothers George and Charles Whelan.
There were 7 Whelan Brothers in all, in that generation. Born roughly 1865 - 1885 (a few sisters in there as well.) So quite a few Whelans to look through by the 2nd and 3rd generations.
These Whelans were Tobacco Trust barons. As Trust Tycoons, they certainly would have had the money to mingle with the Haskells and Loebs. A few other clues that Arthur was a member of the Tobacco Trust Whelan Family.
>1950s - Worked for Guaranty Trust Co. of New York - (merged with JP Morgan & Co in 1959.)
>Executive Position at Rowan Industries when he died.
>Several "confirmed" Tobacco Trust Whelans still live (or recently lived) in the Eastern Monmouth County area, where Rowan was headquartered.
Ancestry has Arthur's father Christopher immigrating in 1916 on the Ship New York. The 1901 Ireland Census has his brothers as Arthur John, Frank and David. 2 daughters.
I had been searching to try to find out how Arthur Edward met "Georgene Ellen". I found Arthur's brother's wedding, listing bridesmaids, etc. but no Ellen. Not sure where Ellen worked. Sometimes connections are made thru the wife's family, but possibly not in this case. Will see about these Whelan bros. Ellen remarried later and died as a "Norris."
Arthur Whelan married "Georgene Ellen Stansberry/ Stansbury in 1956. She died in 2013. Her father was a shipping clerk, according to the Census.

Thank you, that's what I have.
